Once you have your statements of intent/strategic priorities drafted you are in a position to develop your plan. You can either do this now or come back to it later once you’ve developed your personal strategy map in all the pillars.
The enabler should be included in the commitment and actions where relevant.
Commitment
Where do you want to get to in the next year on this priority? Describe the key outcomes and impact in the present tense. Ideally this should align with your vision statement.
For example, if your strategic priority (statement of intent) is around investing in your learning and development, your commitment/vision for being your best self might be that in a year you have developed some more constructive thinking styles and behaviours and this is positively impacting your self-image and confidence, enabling you to be more courageous.
Action Plan
For each of the quarters of the year, identify what you will do to achieve your commitments. These may be a mixture of:
Following on from the previous example, you might make a commitment to learn more about how to employ more self-enhancing constructive thinking and behaviours in your life in the first three months. By 6 months you want to have identified 2-3 habits to support the new behaviours and are measuring how often you are putting these habits into practice, in 9 months you gain some feedback on your progress and self-assess and continue to establish these behaviours, between 9 and 12 months, you employ these behaviours and learning to address some self-defeating issues courageously and wholeheartedly in your life and make significant change.
Important Note: For those of you who are disposed towards perfectionism, you do not need to complete every box for every priority. In fact, choosing which priority you will choose to focus on in any time period is a key part of your strategy – what you will do, and what you will not do. Don’t overload yourself!
